WEED FREE HAY

(A Weed’s Lament)

July 2004

By Russ Faure-Brac

Yes, I’m a weed and proud of it, I say

You’ll find me in fields and in bales of hay

I grow wherever it suits my whim

I’m strong and full of vigor and vim

So what’s this I hear about weed free hay?

What’s wrong with a good weed anyway?

We weeds are offended by this discrimination

To ban us weeds is an abomination

Government agents are not swift, I’ve found

They don’t know their butt from a hole in the ground

We have as much right to be here as the next

These weird regulations have us very perplexed

There are many kinds of weed that will grow

Some even make one high, you know

Do the Agents fear that when a horse looks zoned

The truth will be that the horse is stoned?

So do the horses object, I bet you not

They like to get ripped on horse drugs and pot

Tell me again what’s wrong with a weed

It should be part of each horse’s feed

Horse Spirit

By

Russ Faure-Brac

July 2004

Somewhere inside you there rests a soul

It’s been there since you were but a foal

Full of fire you understand

You come from the hot Arabian sand

Chorus

Horse spirit, horse spirit, please come my way

Can I ride your soul just one more day

I want to delve into your beautiful mind

Who knows what mysteries lie in your eye so kind

You’re my love, my dearest, my equine lover

When I’m lost you give me safety and cover

Chorus

Horse spirit…

And when we ride your soul joins mine

As we climb to heaven on the Duck’s waypoint line

Whenever I hug you I always feel it

That charming, glorious equine spirit

Chorus

Horse spirit…

XP Tribute

July 23, 2004

By Russ Faure-Brac

The XP crowd is quite a cast

Some ride slow and some ride fast

Here’s to the good will that they all foster

And listen now to the XP roster

To start off the list and before we go down

There’s the wonder team of Jim and Cindy Brown

And if you want folks who are really cool

Look no further than Bob and Pat Verhuel

There’s a twosome that knows how to do the job

The fun Laura Horst and her big hunk Rob

But wait, I hear a song so merry

It must be that duo, Anne Perkins and Jerry

Rob from Reno says these you must like

Watch out, here come Skip and Sue Dyke

These two are so cute you’ll fall on your bum

“Cut off sleeves” Heidi and Steve Brautigam

There’s one tough lady whose name is quite tricky

She’s Roxanne Green, AKA Vickie

And if you should think that Icelandics are silly

You’d better go talk to John Parke and Willy

Of all XP riders he’s the hippest guy

Just follow Mark Woods for a contact high

Dave Rabe and Otis are quite a pair

But only one of them rides in his underwear

Miranda must clean up and drive and cook

As she crews Wayne Delbeke, here handsome Canuk

Anne Sands and Russ have been through the mill

Too many XPs, but they’ve not had their fill

Jeff Briscoe and Alex are the ultimate crew

They’ll grease up your axle as they hand you a brew

Sarah’s a hot shot, a rider so rare

I just can’t make out the color of her hair

Then there’s one tough woman and her daughter so fine

Becky Glaser and Leena in my book do shine

A gem of a lady with a man’s name too

Johnny Jewell is the reverse of a Boy Named Sue

Two birds of a feather, they took off and flew

Marci Cunningham soared and Becky Hackworth too

Laura Hayes has a crew that is true to the marrow

Brian, Jamie and Carly, the ruby-throated sparrow

Veterans of ’01 and still swinging the bat

Karen Frederickson and Dwayne and his cowboy hat

He hacks at his laptop as she grips the wheel

Jane and Mike Wilson love their Sportsmobile

She rides a horse and he patches leaks

Lynn Heimelreich and Howard should get kissed on both cheeks

Trim Debbie Boscoe has the world’s greatest smile

‘Cause Steve is her crew, mile after mile

Steven is Godfather to small birds that sing

Just as Debra and Janice took him under their wing

Up trails that are steep and rocky and sandy

Rides Stephanie, crewed by sweet cotton Candy

Give both a big hand, they have hearts true and brave

Thank you to Libby and Cold Springs Dave

For any I’ve missed, I did the best I could

Remember perfection is the enemy of the good

Last but not least is the Duck family

Ann and Calina are as kind as can be

Dave gets a bit grouchy when he’s freezing wet

But he’s always there for you, on that you can bet

The Nickolson’s are the heart and soul of this ride

We love them all and we say it with pride

There’s one final thing that must not be left out

We’ve got to have another big XP route

From border to border in a south to north line

Mexico to Canada, PLEASE, while we’re still in our prime
